Tauhara Steamfield, Taupo

Tauhara is a geothermal area of Taupo in the Waikato region of New Zealand’s North Island.

Tauhara Power station is a 174MW geothermal steam turbine power station. It is Contact Energy’s sixth geothermal power station in the area.

Warner Construction was commissioned as the pipeline experts for this project.

Fast facts:

Tauhara Steamfield has a number of well pads. Warner Constructions brief was to construct and install 3 cross-country pipelines.

  • 2 x geothermal brine re-injection lines

  • 1 x production steam generation line

  • Pipe support with T-stands and plates, fabricated and galvanised at Warner Construction workshops.

  • Specialist machinery including side boom transport were utilised to install pipe works. The onsite welding workshop allowed for the connection of 2 x 12.5m lengths of pipe, providing a notable time saving initiative re transportation.

Civil Works

All greenfield earthworks were carried out under the supervision of Warner’s project management team, including:

  • Pipeline corridors and metal roads.

  • 4.5m diameter Silencer installation.

  • Soak ponds

  • Culverts and retaining walls
