Kawerau Power Station, Bay Of Plenty

The Kawerau Power Station is a 100 megawatt geothermal power plant located just outside the town of Kawerau in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand.

The Power station is situated within the Kawerau geothermal field, which is part of the Taupo Volcanic Zone.

Fast Facts:

  • KA 56 production pipeline was required to connect the new KA56 production well to the exisiting PK6/7 well pad.

  • Pipeline was fabricated by pre-spooling the pipe into 24m strings; WCL purpose made double ending unit.

  • Utilising WCL own side booms and digger booms piping was placed on the embedded items then aligned and welded.

  • KA 55 Reinjection Wellhead.

  • A new injection well was commissioned by Mercury Energy and WCL was engaged to connect the well to the exisiting pipeline.

  • Both projects required multi-disciplinary works to be carried out over the 3 month period at Kawerau Power Station.
